2007 Nebraska Reunion
Next, passengers enjoyed the skit “Excess Baggage” performed
by the Endorf family.  In this skit, Charlotte and her husband
Kevin portrayed the McCulley’s, who were agents for the Children’
s Aid Society and helped place children throughout the west.  
Their children portrayed two Orphan Train Riders and related
their experiences on the Orphan Trains.  
The Nebraska Orphan Train Reunion was held April 21-22, 2007 in
Fremont, Nebraska.  Over140 people attended this two day event.  On
Saturday attendants enjoyed a train ride in a restored 1940s passenger
train.  During their ride, they heard the story of Orphan Train Rider Lois
Gillett and her sisters, as told by her daughter Sharon Berns and
granddaughter Carmen; and Orphan Train Rider Lester Davis, as told by
his son Lester Jr. Davis and daughter-in-law Naomi Davis.

An update was given on the National Orphan Train Complex in Concordia,
Kansas, which will be opening in September 2007.  The complex will consist of
the Morgan-Dowell Research Center and Orphan Train Museum.
Karon (Nutter) Harvey, an Orphan Train Rider Descendant, gave a presentation
on the history of the Orphan Trains and shared her grandmother’s stories.
On Sunday, passengers listened to Robert M. Panzer, Renee Enderle and Dale
Newcombe share their parent’s experiences of the Orphan Train and life with
their new families.  The train ride was followed by an auction to benefit the
Madison County Museum and National Orphan Train Complex.
