Building History - One Brick at a Time
The committee members of the National Orphan Train Complex have come up
with another fundraiser—this time for exterior landscaping and beautification.
The plan has been in the works for over a year to include a beautiful courtyard
and walkway between the Union Pacific Depot Museum and the Morgan-Dowell
Research Center. Thanks again to Bobby and Wanda Morgan, lifesized bronze
statues of children in various activities are ready to take their places in the
courtyard. And because brick is a major part of the entire Complex, the
committee decided to sell engraved bricks to be placed in the courtyard area
and walkways! Fortunately, Concordia is home to Cloud Ceramics, a major
producer of quality construction-grade brick shipped worldwide. The general
manager has consented to engrave and fire our bricks, up to a maximum of
6,000.
Bricks will be sold for $25 each; two lines of engraving will be allowed with a maximum of 14 characters per line, including any
spaces. Allowable designations will be R for a rider and D for a descendant, which will need to be counted in the 14 characters.

If a brick buyer would like to purchase identical bricks, one for installation and one to be shipped to their personal address, the cost
for both bricks plus shipping is $48.50. This was implemented especially for anyone who would like to have their brick in the
courtyard but have it in hand as well. The inscription on the shipped brick must match the inscription on the brick purchased for the
courtyard. Want to buy 2 bricks for the courtyard—the price for both is only $40!

So, all aboard, checkbooks out, it’s time to build a beautiful courtyard!
